March 30, 2019

  • In 2018, the Federal Government announced plans to make certain natural therapies ineligible for private health insurance rebates including Pilates
  • This will not effect group exercise sessions run by Physiotherapists or your Private Health Insurance rebate
  • Private health insurers will continue to pay rebates for group exercise sessions conducted by a Physiotherapist providing that the use of exercises or techniques drawn from Pilates as part of that patient’s treatment are within the accepted scope of clinical practice
  • Benefits will not be paid if the exercise session is advertised or promoted as a Pilates session or if the only service provided is Pilates exercises
  • Grand Slam Physiotherapy and Geelong & Surf Coast Pilates will continue to run group exercise and strengthening sessions that include Pilates exercises, there will be no change to your sessions apart from what the sessions are called
    • Therefore the only change will be the name of the exercise session, we will no longer be calling the sessions Pilates
    • The new name is Strength and Stability
  • Grand Slam Physiotherapy Strength and Stability group sessions involve:
    • Exercises involving a clinical diagnosis and based on patient goals and impairments
    • Individualized assessment
    • Individualized treatment
    • Individualized follow up
    • Clinical notes
    • Group sessions are not limited to Pilates exercises, but will also include other strengthening and stability exercises
