Need a Geelong and Torquay Foot and Ankle Physio?

Ankle sprains are very common sporting injuries. Often they can be very sinister in their level of disability. However, poor management can lead to a high incidence of reinjury and more serious long-term pathology. A thorough proprioception program addressing balance as well as strengthening the whole kinetic chain is highly beneficial in reducing the reinjury risk.

Other injuries such as plantar fasciitis, tibialis posterior tendonopathy or nerve entrapements are also well managed by our foot and ankle physiotherapists. Bony stress fractures or stress reactions of the small bones in the foot may occur as an overuse injury in runners and high load sports. Treatment of bony injuries may include altering weight bearing through use of CAM boots or crutches as required, managing load, manual therapy, addressing contributing factors, a strengthening program, a comprehensive return to run/sport program and working with a multidisciplinary team to treat and prevent future injuries.

Common foot and ankle injuries our physiotherapists treat are listed below (and not limited to) include:

  • Ankle sprain (ligament sprain- may include ATFL, CFL, PTFL and deltoid ligament)
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tendon injuries (tendinopathy/ tendinitis) including the most common Achilles, Tibialis posterior, peroneal and FHL
